Effects of Lanthanum Chloride on Antioxidant Characteristics of Maize Seedlings under Copper Stress
Abstract:Hydroponic experiments were conducted to study the effects of exogenous lanthanum chloride on the antioxidant properties of maize seedling leaves and roots under copper stress. The results showed that copper stress significantly increased the activities of SOD,CAT,APX,DHAR,membrane permeability, and the contents of GSH,MDA in leaves,as well as the activities of SOD,CAT,DHAR,membrane permeability, and contents of AsA,MDA in roots, however, significantly decreased the activities of POD,GR and content of AsA in leaves,as well as the activities of POD,APX,GR and the GSH content in root. Compared with copper stress alone, exogenous lanthanum chloride could significantly increase the activities of SOD,APX, GR,DHAR and AsA content by 16. 3%,86. 2%,225. 0%,62. 5%,267. 7% respectively in leaves, and the activities of SOD,POD,APX,GR,DHAR and the GSH content by 1. 6%,148. 5%,66. 7%,51. 5%, 23. 7%,19. 3% respectively in roots; decrease the activities of CAT,POD,membrane permeability, and content of GSH,MDA by 47. 5%、15. 0%、15. 4%、44. 3%、48. 1% in leaves, the activities of CAT, membrane permeability, and content of AsA, MDA in roots by 42. 9%, 50%, 35. 8%, 41. 1%;and significantly increase the biomass per plant by 25. 4%. Above results indicated that lanthanum chloride could alleviate the oxidative damage and enhance the antioxidant abilities of maize seedlings.
