Abstract:The treatments,10∶0,7∶3,5∶5,3∶7,0∶10 of nitrate ammonium ratios,100% urea treatment, local fertilization and blank as control were designed to investigate the effects of combined application of different forms of nitrogen on root and activities of enzymes related to nitrogen metabolism in Mini Chinese cabbage( Brassica pekinensis) .The results showed that plants treated with only nitrate had maximum accu-mulation of shoot dry matter, and the accumulation of shoot dry matter reduced with the increase of the proportion of ammonium nitrogen. The root dry matter of plants fertilized with nitrate nitrogen∶ammonium nitrogen of 5∶5 reached the highest, and that of (10∶0)—(5∶5) reached higher.Total root length, root surface area and root tips number of plants treated with nitrate nitrogen∶ammonium nitrogen of 3∶7 were higher than those of plants under other treatments, indicating that plants treated with nitrate nitrogen∶am-monium nitrogen of 3∶7 had more lateral root and easily absorbed more water and nutrients. The root volume and average diameter of plants treated with nitrate nitrogen∶ammonium nitrogen of 5∶5 were greater than those of plants under other treatments, indicating that the growth of root was rather robust, although the number of root tip was the minimum under this treatment. When the nitrate nitrogen∶ammonium nitro-gen ranged from (10∶0)—(5∶5),free amino acids and activities of key enzymes involved in nitrogen me-tabolism were higher,so it was more beneficial for plant nitrogen metabolism.
