Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy(HBOT)on serum uric acid and oxi-dative stress levels in mice with hyperuricemia(HUA).Methods A total of 21 specific pathogen free(SPF)male Kun-ming mice were randomly divided into control group,HUA group and HUA+HBOT group, with 7 mice in each.Except for the control group, the other two groups of mice were given a mixture of adenine and ethambutol by gavage for 4 weeks to establish a HUA mouse model;the HUA+HBOT group was given HBOT for 7 consecutive days.Serum uric acid, xanthine oxidase(XO)activity, reactive oxygen species(ROS)content in ankle joint and kidney tissues and the expres-sion of uncoupling proteins-2(UCP2)in heart and kidney were compared among groups. Results The levels of serum uric acid,XO activity,ROS content in ankle joint,ROS content in kidney and UCP2 expression in heart in HUA group were significantly higher than those in control group(all P<0.05);serum uric acid,XO activity,ROS content in ankle joint, kidney ROS content and heart UCP2 expression in HUA+HBOT group were significantly lower than those in HUA group(all P<0.05),while there was no significant difference in kidney UCP2 expression(P>0.05).Conclusion HBOT can reduce serum uric acid level and ROS content in tissues, thereby alleviating oxidative stress injury in HUA mice.
