Analysis of Stigma and Related Factors in Patients with Thyroid Associated Ophthalmopathy

Abstract:Objective To analyze the factors influencing stigma in patients with thyroid associated ophthalmopathy(TAO)and provide an effective basis for promoting their mental health.Methods A total of 80 TAO patients admitted to the department of orbital disease surgery of author's hospital from June to September 2024 were enrolled,the Chinese version of stigma scale for chronic illness(SSCI)was used to investigate the stigma of patients;binary Logistic regression analysis was performed to screen out the influencing factors affecting the stigma of TAO patients.Results The intrinsic stigma and extrinsic stigma scores of patients with photophobia,tearing,chemosis,conjunctival congestion,exophthalmos,upper eyelid retraction,limited eye movement,diplopia and vision loss were higher than those of patients without such symptoms(all P<0.05).Binary Logistic regression analysis showed that upper eyelid retraction,conjunc-tival congestion and diplopia were the risk factors of internal stigma(OR values were 8.604,4.589 and 5.309,respec-tively,all P<0.05);upper eyelid retraction,vision loss and exophthalmos were risk factors for external stigma(OR values were 7.324,5.609 and 5.614,respectively,all P<0.05).Conclusion Upper eyelid retraction,conjunctival congestion,diplopia,vision loss and exophthalmos are the influencing factors of stigma in TAO patients,which should be paid attention to by clinical medical staff and given corresponding intervention measures.
