Effectiveness of Online Peer Interaction Mode in Guiding Safely Wearing Orthokeratology Lenses Among Pediatric Patients

Abstract:Objective To explore the influence of online peer interaction mode to guide pediatric patients to wear orthokeratology lenses normatively and safely,and provide new health educational methods for clinicians to guide pediatric patients wearing orthokeratology lenses.Methods A total of 100 pediatric patients were divided into observation group and control group according to the odd-even number in the optometry clinic,with 50 cases in each.The parents and pedi-atric patients in the control group joined in the Wechat group,and professional nurses answered questions in the Wechat group and regularly preached health education knowledge;pediatric patients in the observation group stayed in peer envi-ronment established by professional nurses,by participating in Wechat group games,the participants actively explored and learned the knowledge of orthokeratology,supervised each other and standardized the behavior of wearing glasses,shared practical experience.The mastery of orthokeratology lenses related health education knowledge,the standard wear-ing and maintenance of lenses and the compliance of regular review were compared between the two groups.Results The orthokeratology health education knowledge awareness rates,the completion degree of standardized lens wearing and re-moval and maintenance procedures in observation group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).After wearing orthokeratology lenses for 1 month,there was no statistically significant difference in follow-up visits compliance between the two groups(P>0.05),but after 3 and 6 months,the compliance of the observation group was higher than those of the control group,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion The online peer interaction model integrates children's cognitive and behavioral characteristics,effectively stimulates their exploratory motivation and facilitates active self-health education through play-based learning.
