Study on the Influencing Factors and Action Paths of Achievement Motivation Among Peacekeeping Soldiers

Abstract：Objective To explore the relationship among achievement motivation,social support,big five personality and coping styles in peacekeeping soldiers.Methods A total of 307 peacekeeping soldiers of Mali were tested by achievement motiva-tion scale(AMS),neuroticism extraversion openness five-factor inventory(NEO-FFI),social support rating scale(SSRS),and simplified coping style questionnaire(SCSQ).Pearson correlation analysis was used to explore the relationship among variables,and multiple linear regression was used to analyze the predictive effects of SSRS,NEO-FFI,SCSQ on AMS,structural equation model was constructed to investigate the mediation roles of NEO-FFI and SCSQ in the relationship between SSRS and AMS.Re-sults A total of 307 questionnaires were distributed and 302 valid questionnaires were collected,with the effective rate of 98.37％.Among the peacekeeping soldiers,the achievement motivation,score(48.17±8.58)was higher than that of the moti-vation to avoid failure(29.50±11.06);the proportions of high and low achievement motivation were 86.09％and 13.91％re-spectively.The results of Pearson correlation analysis suggested that extroversion,openness,agreeableness,rigor,support utili-zation and positive coping were positively associated with achievement motivation(r=0.523,0.369,0.293,0.477,0.274,0.356,all P＜0.001),and euroticism and negative coping was negatively associated with achievement motivation(r=0.519,0.211,all P＜0.001).The results of the multiple linear regression analysis showed that extroversion,neuroticism,openness,active coping,support utilization and conscientious entered the regression equation in turn;and the 6 variables could explain 43.23％variance of achievement motivation.The direct effect of social support utilization on achievement motivation was not significant;between social support utilization and achievement motivation,big five personality and positive coping style had complete mediating effect(P=0.031,0.016)and chain mediating effect(P=0.005),and the mediating effect ratios were 67.98％,25.84％and 6.18％respectively.Conclusion The peacekeeping soldiers' achievement motivation is high,and some individuals have too strong motivation to avoid failure.Achieve-ment motivation is influenced by many factors.Social support can indirectly enhance achievement motivation by improving ability and quality of excellent personality,active coping style.
