Qualitative Study on Pain Experience,Coping and Impact of Officers and Soldiers in Navy Department

Abstract:Objective To understand the experience,coping styles and influence of pain among naval officers and soldiers,so as to provide reference for formulating targeted intervention programs for pain officers and soldiers in Navy ship forces.Methods With qualitative research method,a semi-structured interview was conducted among 14 officers and soldiers with typical pain from August to November 2022.The interview data were analyzed by Colaizzi seven-step analysis method.Results A total of 4 themes and 10 sub-themes were extracted,including the causes of pain(mainly caused by training,pain could be aggravated by multiple factors),coping with pain(not paying attention to or underestimating the initial pain,had adapted to living with pain,actively coping with pain),the impact of pain(daily workload and training was reduced,daily life was greatly affected,severe pain affected daily emotion)and the current needs(symptom improve-ment,medical guidance).Conclusion Medical staff should strengthen the education of pain knowledge to officers and soldiers,improve their early attention to pain,intervene as soon as possible,and guide officers and soldiers to do a good job in self-management of chronic pain.It is need to actively promote the development of pain specialty and optimize and improve the multidimensional diagnosis and treatment level of pain at the grassroots units.
