Abstract:Objective To explore the predictive effect of transformational leadership in the military on soldiers'depressive states. Methods Two follow-up surveys spaced 4 months apart were conducted on 204 military personnel by the military transformational leadership questionnaire(TLQ)and the patient health questionnaire 9(PHQ-9).The data was analyzed using Amos 26.0 software to construct a cross-lagged model. Results There were no significant difference between T1 and T2 in TLQ total score and the scores of moral exemplification, vision motivation, personalized care and leadership charisma, and PHQ-9 total score within 4 months(P>0.05).After controlling for baseline depression levels,it was found that baseline transformational leadership significantly predicted subsequent depression levels(β=-0.15,P<0.05);vision motivation, leadership charisma and personalized care in transformational leadership could predict de-pressive state(β=-0.15,-0.17,-0.16,all P<0.05).Conclusion The level of vision motivation, leadership charis-ma and personalized care in military transformational leadership can effectively predict the depressive state of military per-sonnel.It suggests that leaders can strengthen their leadership style in vision motivation, leadership charisma and person-alized care to improve their subordinates'mental health.
