Abstract:Objective To explore the correlation between neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio(NLR),fibrinogen-to-albu-min ratio(FAR)and the short-term prognosis of ischemic stroke in patients complicated with patent foramen ovale. Methods A total of 91 ischemic stroke patients complicated with patent foramen ovale admittted to author's hospital from July 2016 to March 2022 were collected. The patients were divided into inherent type group(n=51)and latent type group(n=40),and 97 patients with ischemic stroke without patent foramen ovale during the same period were selected as control group. The difference of general demographic data, biochemical indexes, national institute of health stroke scale(NIHSS)scores and in-flammatory markers were compared among the three groups. The correlations between NLR,FAR and NIHSS scores were evaluated. Results There were no significant differences in the general information and biochemical indexes among three groups(P>0.05).The NIHSS scores at admission and discharge of patients in inherent type group were significantly high-er than those in control group and latent type group(all P<0.01);the NLR and FAR of patients in inherent type group were significantly higher than those in control group, and FAR of patients in inherent type group were significantly higher than that in the latent type group(all P<0.05);the NLR,FAR of patients in inherent type group were positive correlated with NIHSS scores at discharge(r=0.578 and 0.291 respectively, all P<0.05).Conclusion The severity of neurological impairment in ischemic stroke patients with patent foramen ovale is related to the type of shunt, and the inherent type is more serious than the latent type. The mechanism may be closely related to the increase of inflammatory indicators NLR and FAR.
