Mediating Role of Self-efficacy Between Stigma and Social Alienation in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

Abstract:Objective To explore the status of stigma,self-efficacy and social alienation of peritoneal dialysis pa-tients and the path effects among the three.Methods A total of 377 peritoneal dialysis patients from a grade A tertiary hospital in Xi'an city were investigated by the convenient sampling method from January to March 2023,the survey tools included the general information questionnaire,the peritoneal dialysis patients'stigma scale,the self-efficacy scale and the social alienation scale.Results The score of stigma of peritoneal dialysis patients was(76.33±7.72),the score of self-efficacy was(24.71±5.33),and the score of social alienation was(43.57±8.54).Taking the sense of stigma as the in-dependent variable,social alienation as the dependent variable,and self-efficacy as the intermediary variable,through the structural equation model analysis.The results showed that the sense of stigma of peritoneal dialysis patients had direct effects on social alienation,which played indirect role on social alienation through the intermediary role of self-efficacy(all P<0.01).Conclusion Peritoneal dialysis patients have serious social alienation,and the sense of stigma can aggravate the level of social alienation of the patients,however,good self-efficacy can buffer the impact of stigma on social aliena-tion.We should pay attention to the health education of peritoneal dialysis patients,reduce stigma of patients,and pro-mote their self-efficacy,so that patients can reduce social alienation and better integrate into society.
