Abstract:Objective To investigate the feasibility of using dual-energy computed tomography(CT)to measure to-tal iodine content and average iodine concentration in thyroid, and to further study the correlation between thyroid dual-energy CT indicators and thyroid function. Methods The data of thyroid dual-energy CT examination of 81 patients were retrospectively analyzed, the patients were divided into normal thyroid function group(n=57),hyperthyroidism group(n=10)and hypothyroidism group(n=14)according to disease condition.CT parameters including average iodine con-centration,average dual-energy CT value and thyroid volume were measured among all patients, the total thyroid iodine content was calculated and the thyroid function test results were collected, including free triiodothyronine(FT3),total triiodothyronine(TT3),free thyroxine(FT4),total thyroxine(TT4)and thyroid-stimulating hormone(TSH)levels,fi-nally,the correlation between thyroid dual-energy CT indexes and thyroid function test values was analyzed. Results In normal thyroid function group, the levels of FT3,FT4 and TT4 were positively correlated with total thyroid iodine content(all P<0.05),the average iodine concentration was positively correlated with the levels of FT4and TT4(P<0.01).In hyperthyroidism group and hypothyroidism group, the total thyroid iodine content was positively correlated with the levels of FT4 and TT4(P<0.01),but negatively correlated with the level of TSH(P<0.01);the average iodine concentration was positively correlated with the levels of FT4 and TT4(P<0.01),but negatively correlated with the level of TSH(P<0.05).Conclusion The thyroid dual-energy CT indicators have a relatively exact correlation with the thyroid function test val-ues.The total iodine content and average iodine concentration of thyroid can be measured quickly and effectively by dual-energy CT,which has potential value in the evaluation of thyroid function in patients with thyroid diseases.
