Abstract:Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of open reduction and internal fixation with Kirschner wire for the treatment of humeral medial epicondyle fractures in children. Methods Twenty-one children with medial epicondyle fractures treated by open reduction with Kirschner wire internal fixation in authors' hospital from December 1, 2013 to December 1, 2016 were retrospectively analyzed.Among them, 17 children patients were male and 4 were female. The age ranged from6 to 13 years (average 9.3 years).Of the 21 fractures evaluated, 18 were classified as typeⅡ, and 3 were typeⅢ on the basis of the Henry type. All patients were fixed with Kirschner wire. Results All patients were followed up for 6 to 15 months with an average of 12 months. The clinical healing time of the fractures were 2 to 5 months, averaged 3 months. At the last follow-up, Mayo's elbow joint function scoring system was used to calculate elbow joint function. The excellent and good rate was 95.24%.And the elbow valgus stress test was negative. Conclusion The use of open reduction with Kirschner wire internal fixation of medial epicondyle fractures in children is conducive to early functional exercise and postoperative functional recovery.
