Abstract:Objective To study the correlation between plasma high density lipoprotein (HDL) levels and smoking in patients with intracranial artery stenosis (ICAS).Methods A total of 185 male patients with cerebral infarction in authors' hospital from January 2016 to January 2017 were collected, including 89 cases of multiple intracranial artery stenosis,57 cases of solitary intracranial artery stenosis and 39 cases of non-intracranial artery stenosis. The smoking history, drinking history, past history, blood glucose, blood lipid and so on were collected.According to the situation of smoking, the patients were divided into smoking group, smoking cessation group and non-smoking group, and the intracrnial arterial stensis and plasma HDL levels of patients were analyzed. Results There were no significant differences in blood lipids [total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),low density lipoprotein(LDL)] among three groups (P>0.05).The plasma HDL levels in smoking group were significant lower than those in smoking cessation patients and non-smoking patients (P<0.001),but there was no significant difference between smoking cessation patients and non-smoking patients (P>0.05).For patients with multiple ICAS,the plasma HDL levels in smoking group were significantly lower than thosein smoking cessation group and non-smoking group (P<0.001),but there was no significartly difference between smokingcessation group and non-smoking group (P>0.05).The plasma HDL levels of multiple stenosis patients were lower than that of solitary non-stenosis patients (P<0.001),and solitary stenosis patients were lower than that of solitary stenosis patients (P =0.005).Conclusion There is a significant correlation between smoking and plasma HDL levels in patients with ICAS,and it is closely related to multiple intracranial stenosis.Smoking can reduce plasma HDL levels and increase the ICAS,but smoking cessation can help to improve the level of plasma HDL.
