Retrospective Analysis of Pathological Features of Early Gastroesophageal Junction Cancer

Abstract:Objective To analyze the pathological features of early gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) cancer.Methods The pathological features of Siewert various types of 70 early GEJ cancer cases diagnosed by postoperative pathology were retrospectively analyzed,and the relationship between these and Barrett's esophagus as well as intestinal metaplasia (IM).Results Siewert type [[was 64.29% (45/70) of early GEJ cancer,Siewert type Ⅰ with Barrett's esophagus was the highest proportion of 85.71% (12/14).No significantly different was found in three Siewert types with IM.The squamous cell carcinoma was 35.71% of Siewert Type Ⅰ,the differentiated adenocarcinoma was 57.14% and the undifferentiated adenocarcinoma was 7.14%.Of Siewert Type Ⅱ,the differentiated adenocarcinoma and the undifferentiated adenocarcinoma were 68.89% and 31.11%,resepectively.The differentiated adenocarcinoma and the undifferentiated adenocarcinoma were 81.82% and 18.18% of Siewert Type Ⅲ.There was none squarnous cell carcinoma in type Ⅱ or Ⅲ.The differentiated adenocarcinoma was given priority to three Siewer types in early GEJ cancer.There was significantly different in histological classification of three Siewer types(P<0.05),but not depth of invasion.Conclusion During the detection of early GEJ cancer,the background region of Barrett's esophagus,atrophy and IM are noteworthy.Besides,the differentiated adenocarcinoma was the most common.
