Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of pressure support ventilation (PSV) combined with automatic tube compensation (ATC) on respiratory mechanics in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).Methods Twenty-one COPD patients were allocated into PSV + ATC group and PSV group in random order based on different treatment modes. The respiratory parameters including tidal volume, ineffective inspiratory times and flow-volume(F-V) curves, were compared. Results Compared with PSV + ATC modes, tidal volume, high tide alarm and ineffective inspiratory times, and initial inspiratory speed of F-V curves of COPD patients all increased in PSV + ATC mode (P< 0.05).Conclusion It is recommended to use a separate mode for COPD patients instead of the combination of PSV and ATC.
