Abstract:Objective To study the protective effect of gastrodin on mice under simulated high altitude hypoxia environment by using normobaric hypoxia tolerance test combined with acute decompression of hypoxia tolerance test. Methods A total of 100 male BalB/c mice were randomly divided into two groups for two experiments.According to the random number table method,50 mice in each group were divided into blank model (M) group, rhodiola crenulata (RC)group,low-dose gastrodin (GAS-L) group,medium-dose gastrodin (GAS-M) group and high-dose gastrodin (GAS-H)group (n =10).Each mice were timed to receive gavage everyday for 7 days. The anti-hypoxic activities of gastrodin were evaluated from whole levels of mice after 50 minutes treatment at the seventh day by comparing the survival times in a closed environment and survival rates under acute decompression conditions between two groups. Results Three doses of gastrodin significantly prolonged the survival times of mice under normobaric hypoxia environment(P<0.01),and reduced death rate of mice under acute decompression of hypoxia environment. No dose-effect relationship was found in low-,medium-and high-dose gastrodin groups. Conclusion Gastrodin have a protective effect for mice with high altitude hypoxia damage.
