Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of tumor endothelial marker 8 (TEM8) protein in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and adjacent non-cancerous normal lung tissues. Methods TEM8 expressions were evaluated in NSCLC tissues (n=110) and adjacent normal lung tissues (n=30) by immunohistochemistry. The correlation between TEM8 expressions and NSCLC clinicopathological parameters, and survival rates were analyzed by statistical methods. Results The positive expression rate of TEM8 was significantly higher in NSCLC tissues (52.72%) than that in adjacent normal lung tissues (6.67%) (P<0.01).The expression of TEM8 in NSCLC was correlated with differentiation degree, TNM stage and lymph node metastasis (P<0.05).Kaplan-Meier survival analysis suggested that the positive expression of TEM8 was negatively correlated with the overall survival rate (P<0.05).Conclusion High level of TEM8 expression is significantly correlated with NSCLC progression and poor prognosis, so it can be used as a novel NSCLC biomarker
