Assessment of Sleep Quality Improvement on Naval Officers and Soldiers After Sleep Management

Abstract:Objective To evaluate sleep qualities on naval officers and soldiers after sleep management.Methods Eighty-four navy ship crewmembers were randomly divided into sleep management group (observation group) and placebo group (control group) for 3 months study.Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) scale was used to evaluate the sleep quality before and after sleep management.Results The mean time of nocturnal sleep of observation group increased from (5.14±1.46) h to (6.85±2.16) h.The average PSQI score decreased from 8.75±3.24 to 7.35±2.86 and rate of sleep disorders dropped from 52.4% to 42.3%.In contrast, control group had no significant change in mean time of nocturnal sleep, average PSQI score and rate of sleep disorders.Conclusion Sleep management can improve the sleep qualities of naval officers and soldiers.
