Abstract:Objective To evaluate the correlation value between serum pancreatic stone protein (PSP) and clinical prognosis in patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP).Methods Sixty VAP patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) from January 2013 to December 2015 were enrolled in VAP group of this study, and 40 patients without VAP were chosen in control group. The levels of interleukin-1β(IL-1β),interleukin-10(IL-10),procalcitonin (PCT) and PSP were measured at three time points:the beginning of mechanical ventilation(MV),the day of VAP diagnosis and the fourth day after diagnosis in VAP group, while above indexs were detected at the first, fourth and eighth day of MV in control group. Results The levels of IL-10,PCT and PSP on the day of VAP diagnosis and the fourth day after diagnosis in VAP group were higher than those at the beginning of MV,while IL-1β level was lower (P<0.05).The levels of IL-10,PCT and PSP on the day of VAP diagnosis and the fourth day after diagnosis in VAP dead subgroup were higher than those at the beginning of MV(P<0.05).Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis showed that PSP level at VAP diagnosis point and△1 had significant diagnosis value for 28-day mortality in VAP patients.Correlation analysis showed that PSP level on the day of VAP diagnosis and the fourth day after VAP diagnosis were positively associated with VAP mortality,while△1 and △2 were negatively related with mortality(P<0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that PSP levels on the day of VAP diagnosis, the fourth day after VAP diagnosis and△1 were independent risk factors associated with VAP mortality. Conclusion Serum PSP level can become a new type biomarker for clinical prognosis in VAP patients.
