Abstract:Objective To compare the efficacy and safety between breast approach endoscopic and open-neck surgery for Graves with randomized controlled trial. Methods A total of 212 Graves patients were randomly allocated into breast approach endoscopic group (A group) and open-neck surgery group (B group) from July,2014 to June,2015.The efficacy and safety of treatment in 6 months were analyzed in comparison between the two groups. The symptom remission rate, thyroid function test, operation time, surgical blood loss and surgery complication were observed. Results Surgical blood loss and operation time in group A was significantly more than group B (P<0.05).The mean total postoperative hospital stay in group A was markedly less than group B (P<0.05).All patients were fully follow up after 6 months. Conclusion Both breast approach endoscopic and traditional open surgery, safety and effectiveness are similar. However, breast approach endoscopic surgery has the advantage of no scar in the neck and shorter postoperative hospital stay, which needs to reduce blood loss and operation time.
