Abstract:Considering the variation of mountain strikes, this paper conducted a comparative study of the ground motion response in the 3D basin-mountain coupling terrain under S-wave incidence based on the numerical simulation method which combined high-precision spectral-element method and multi-transmitting boundary. The results show that compared with the model that considers only the basin while ignoring the surrounding terrain, the basin-mountain coupling site has a greater impact on the ground motion within the basin, significantly amplifying the ground motion intensity in certain areas of the basin, with a maximum amplification factor of about 1.8.Additionally,the ground motion strengthens in the summit area of the mountain, while it weakens in the foot area.Compared with the model that only considers the mountainous terrain, the basin-mountain coupling site significantly amplifies ground motion in the basin area, while the influence of the basin on ground motion in the mountainous region is relatively small. The Fourier spectral curve of the time-history response shows more intense oscillations at surface points in the basin-mountain coupling site, with both the mountain summit and the basin center being locations of strong spectral amplification. Therefore, the coupling effect between the basin and mountain should be considered when analyzing the ground motion of a basin-mountain composite site.
