Abstract:The study of Late Quaternary paleoearthquakes of the Gyaring Co Fault is a key link in understanding the tectonic deformation and seismic hazard assessment in the Central Tibet. This paper conducted field investigations, unmanned aerial vehicle photogrammetry, trench excavation, optically stimulated luminescence(OSL)dating, and radiocarbon dating at Quba along the middle segment of the Gyaring Co Fault.Five paleoearthquakes were identified:E1(59.0±2.1 ka BP),E2(57.1±2.2 ka BP),E3(30.2±1.4 ka BP),E4(12.5±0.6 ka BP),and E5(2.2-3.2 ka BP).The results reveal that the elapsed time of the latest event is over 2.2±0.3 ka,which approaches the estimated recurrence interval of the MW 7.4 earthquake. It indicates strong seismic risk along the middle segment of the Gyaring Co Fault.
