Abstract：Based on the chemical character and origin of the d issolved CH4 in ground water,The characteristics of seismic precursory of the dissolved CH4 in ground water at the No.10 spring,Urumqi are analyzed with many earthquake examples within the duration 19 years.It is found that the conte nt of dissolved CH4 in groundwater before earthquakes basically appears the po sitive anomaly, the earthquake occur when the anomaly from high to low value or the anomaly return to normal value. Finally, it is believed that the special sei smotectonic environment is the reasons that the CH4 content in the spring have the higher sensitivity for earthquake precursory.
