Abstract:Mitofusin 2(MFN2),as a mitochondrial dynamics-related protein, not only mediates mitochondrial fusion and division, but also participates in various pathophysiological processes such as mitochondrial adenosine triphosphate(ATP)supply, mitochondrial endoplasmic reticulum-associated membranes(MAMs),cellular energy metabolism, calcium ion homeostasis, endoplasmic reticulum stress, and autophagy, and plays different roles in different processes.MFN2 plays different roles in different diseases, such as acting as mitochondrial axial transport in Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2A(CMT2A),neuroprotective in Alzheimer's disease, and inhibiting cancer in cancer.A comprehensive review of the structure and function of MFN2 and its role in disease were provided.
