Effects of Semaglutide on Total Myocardial Ischemia Burden and Serum Inflammatory Factors in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes and Coronary Heart Disease

Abstract:Objective:To investigate the efficacy and value of semaglutide in treating patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)complicated by coronary heart disease. Methods:A total of 78 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)complicated by coronary heart disease admitted to Nanyang Central Hospital from May 2023 to April 2024 were enrolled as study subjects.Based on differences in treatment strategies, they were divided into a control group and an observation group. The control group(n=39)received conventional therapy, while the observation group(n=39)received conventional therapy plus semaglutide treatment. The glycemic and lipid metabolism parameters, vascular endothelial function, total myocardial ischemia burden, and serum inflammato-ry factors were compared between the two patient groups. Results:After 12 weeks of treatment, the fasting blood glucose(FBG),2-hour postprandial glucose(2hPG),glycated hemoglobin(HbA1c),total cholesterol(TC),triglycerides(TG),low-density lipopro-tein cholesterol(LDL-C),and plasma endothelin-1(ET-1)in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, while high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF),and nitric oxide(NO)were higher than those in the control group, with all differences being statistically significant(P<0.05).After 12 weeks of treatment, patients in the observation group exhibited significantly lower levels of total myocardial ischemia burden,high-sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs-CRP),and interleukin-6(IL-6)compared to the control group, with all differences being statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion:Semaglutide can improve glucose and lipid metabolism parameters in patients with T2DM complicated by coronary heart disease, enhance vascular endothelial function, reduce total myocardial ischemia burden, and lower serum inflammatory fac-tors.
