Abstract:Vascular dementia(VD)is a progressive cognitive disorder caused by reduced cerebral blood flow and cerebrovascular disease. It ranks second only to Alzheimer's disease in incidence and remains the only preventable form of dementia.Pharmacological treatments offer limited efficacy and are associated with side effects.Auricular therapy,as a non-pharmacological treatment, offers advantages such as safety, efficacy, preventive and therapeutic capabilities, and simplicity. It has garnered significant attention in recent years, with its fundamental principles involving meridians, internal organs, nerves, delta reflexes, and holographic theory. This article aims to summarize the clinical application and related mechanisms of auricular therapy in treating VD.Analysis of relevant studies reveals that auricular therapy can improve cognitive function and quality of life in VD patients, with mechanisms involving anti-inflammatory effects, antioxidant stress protection, and regulation of cerebral blood flow.
