Exploration and Practice of Cognitive Intervention in Cultivating Professional Identity of Intern Male Nurses

Abstract:Objective:To explore the current status of professional identity among male nurses in internships,examine various factors influencing their professional identity,study the effect of cognitive interventions in enhancing the professional identity of male nursing students,and propose strategies for improving the professional identity of male nursing students,so as to provide references and guidance for nursing and clinical education.Methods:A cluster sampling method was used to select 76 male nursing students from a vocational college who have completed a 5-month clinical internship in the nursing major of 2020,and their professional identity was investigated.A self-made male nursing student internship questionnaire and focus group interview method were used for investigation.These male nursing students were randomly divided into a control group and an intervention group,with 38 students in each group.The control group received routine internship education,while the intervention group received cognitive intervention.Results:After the experiment,the professional identity of male nursing students in the intervention group was elevated compared to the control group,and the differences were statistical significant(t=-8.268,P<0.05).The post-experimental professional identity of male nursing students in the intervention group was greater than their pre-experimental level,and the difference was statistically significant(t=-7.501,P<0.05).No significant statistical difference was observed in the control group between pre-and post-experiment,and the difference was not statistically significant(t=-0.689,P>0.05).Factors affecting their professional identity include family members' lack of understanding,the filling of volunteer applications,lack of understanding from patients and their families,negative influence from teaching instructors,unreasonable arrangement of internship departments and content,and the qualifications of teaching instructors.Conclusion:The professional identity level of male nursing interns is below average;Cognitive intervention could effectively improve the professional identity level of male nursing interns.
