Abstract:Objective:To compare the postoperative outcomes of displaced inferior patellar fractures treated with intermittent vertical wire suturing versus wire ring fixation. Methods:From January 2020 to January 2023,116 cases of displaced infrapatellar fractures treated in the Orthopedic Department of the Third Division General Hospital of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps were selected, with two distinct surgical fixation techniques applied.Group A underwent interrupted vertical wire suturing(n=66),while Group B received wire"O"-shaped circumferential fixation(n=50).The age, gender, body mass index(BMI),underlying medical conditions,American Society of Anesthesiologists(ASA)physical status classification, fracture type, and smoking status of the two patient groups were recorded and compared.Additionally, complications, range of motion of the affected knee, and knee function were followed up and compared between the two groups at 12 months postoperatively. Results:The knee joint range of motion was significantly greater in Group A patients than in Group B patients after surgery, with a statistically significant difference(P<0.05).Postoperative knee joint Bostrom scores were significantly higher in Group A than in Group B,with a statistically significant difference(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of surgery-related indicators and complication rates(P>0.05).Conclusion:Compared with steel wire"O"-ring fixation technique, patients treated with interrupted vertical steel wire suturing for infrapatellar fractures demonstrated superior knee range of motion and Bostrom knee function scores at 12-month follow-up.Both groups exhibited comparable surgical safety.Interrupted vertical steel wire suturing should be considered as an alternative treatment for infrapatellar fractures.
