Abstract:The central nervous system infection(CNSI)disease carry high rates of disability and mortality worldwide, making accurate early pathogen diagnosis crucial for treatment. However, over half of cases remain undiagnosed using current detection methods, posing significant challenges for clinicians.Metagenomic next-generation sequencing(mNGS)technology,as a novel diagnostic approach characterized by high sensitivity, high throughput, and unbiased detection, has significantly improved pathogen detection rates and holds broad clinical application prospects. It primarily reviews the developmental trajectory of mNGS technology, briefly outlines its clinical applications in pathogen detection for CNSI,and summarizes the challenges and issues it faces.
