Study on the Clinical Efficacy and Prognosis of Piperacillin-Sulbactam Combined with Glucocorticoids in Elderly Patients with Severe Pneumonia

Abstract：Objective:To investigate the clinical efficacy of piperacillin-sulbactam combined with glucocorticoids in the treat-ment of severe pneumonia in the elderly.Methods:A total of 80 elderly patients with severe pneumonia admitted to Ruzhou First People's Hospital from June 2023 to December 2024 were selected as study objects and randomly divided into a control group(treated with piperacillin-sulbactam)and an experimental group(treated with piperacillin-sulbactam plus corticosteroids).The clini-cal efficacy,inflammatory markers,blood gas analysis indicators,and prognosis of the two groups were compared.Results:Com-pared with the control group,the experimental group had a higher overall effective rate,lower inflammatory markers,better blood gas analysis indicators,shorter hospitalization and mechanical ventilation times,and lower 28-d mortality rates,the differences were all statistically significant(P＜0.05).Conclusion:The addition of methylprednisolone to piperacillin-sulbactam therapy yields better results.
