Abstract:Objective:To study the characteristics of condylar morphology and position with different vertical skeletal facial types in Skeletal Malocclusion Class Ⅲ patients. Methods:Cone Beam computed tomography(CBCT)Dicom datas were collected from 39 adult patients with skeletal ClassⅢ malocclusion. They were divided into low-angle groups,normol-angle groups, and high-angle groups.Measurement and analysis were conducted using the software Dolphin imageing 11.9.The relevant indicators of condylar morphology and position were measured. Results:The data had good consistency on both sides of the condyles in the three groups. There were no statistically significant differences in the antero-posterior condylar diameters and the horizontal angle(F=0.603,0.013;P>0.05).The low-angle groups had the largest inner-outer diameter, followed by the normol-angle groups, and the high-angle groups, the mesial, lateral, and central space all showed the largest in the low-angle group, followed by the normol-angle group, and the smallest in the high-angle group, with statistically sibnificant difference(F=2.852,5.244;P<0.05).Observed from the coronal plane, the intra-articular,extra-articular and superior spaces of the three groups of patients were relatively consistent, and the differences were statistically significant(F=4.134,3.604,7.649;P<0.05).Conclusion:Class Ⅲ malocclusion patients with different vertical skeletal patterns have different positions and forms of condyles. The condyle morphology of low-angle patients is greater, and larger spaces in the coronal and vertical directions, which should be paid attention to in clinical diagnosis and treatment.
