Abstract:Objective:To explore the correlation and clinical significance between vascular and nerve disorders(NVC)and clinical efficacy in patients with hemifacial spasm(HFS)treated by local injection of botulinum toxin type A(BoNTA).Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on 58 patients with HFS who were diagnosed in the neurology department of the sample hospital and received local injection of BoNTA in the outpatient department from August 2018 to August 2020 as the research subjects. Those with clear NVC in the magnetic resonance neuroimaging(MRN)report were classified as the positive group, and those without NVC were classified as the negative group.Among them, there were 11 cases in the positive group and 47 cases in the negative group. The degree of spasm and therapeutic effect of HFS patients were evaluated through relevant scales. Finally, the differences in the therapeutic effect and duration of the therapeutic effect of BoNTA treatment between the two groups of patients were compared and analyzed. Results:The ratio of male to female in the positive group was 1∶1,and that in the negative group was 1∶2.The effective rate of treatment in the positive group was 90%,and that in the negative group was 94%.The onset time of HFS treatment in the positive group and the negative group was mostly within one week. The duration of therapeutic effect for the two groups of patients was comparable, mostly within half a year. The duration of therapeutic effect for the two groups of patients was comparable, mostly within half a year. The incidence of side effects in the two groups of patients was comparable. The symptoms were mild, and most of them spontaneously relieved within one week.No permanent side effects were found. Conclusion:The presence or absence of NVC has no significant correlation with the efficacy and duration of BoNTA,indicating that the presence or absence of NVC in HFS patients cannot be used as an indication and efficacy predictor for local injection treatment of BoNTA.
