Abstract:Objective:To investigate the clinical effect of long median occlusal complete denture in the treatment of elderly patients with edentulous jaws.Methods:126 elderly patients with edentulous jaw admitted to Jiaozuo Wuguan Hospital from November 2021 to May 2023 were selected as the study subjects. They were divided into observation group(n=63)and control group(n=63)according to random number table method. The control group were treated with traditional anatomical occlusal complete denture, while the observation group were treated with long median occlusal complete denture. The Bite force quotient, temporomandibular joint disorder index, masticatory function, marginal bone resorption, quality of life and satisfaction were compared between the two groups. Results:After 3 months and 6 months of treatment, the bite force score of observation group was higher than that of control group, and temporomandibular joint disorder index of observation group was lower than that of control group, the difference was statistically significant(t=11.657,12.516,12.280,9.671;P<0.05).After 3 months and 6 months of treatment, the masticatory function of observation group was higher than that of control group, and the marginal bone resorption of observation group was lower than that of control group, the difference was statistically significant(t=3.388,6.281,4.768,8.181;P<0.05).After 6 months of treatment, the scores of various quality of life indexes in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, with statistically significant difference(t=8.157,10.603,6.874,8.615;P<0.05).The satisfaction of patients in observation group was higher than that in control group, and the difference was statistically significant(t=19.580,P<0.05).Conclusion:The application of full denture with long median occlusion in elderly edentulous patients can reduce the degree of temporomandibular joint disorder, promote the improvement of Bite force quotient, and improve their masticatory function and quality of life.
