Abstract:Objective To observe the effect of saxagliptin on glucose and lipid metabolism and insulin sensitivity in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus poorly controlled by metformin. Methods 64 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus poorly controlled by metformin alone in the Outpatients Department of Endocrinology from April,2012 to December,2015 were selected as study subjects, and they were divided into the observation group and the control group by the random number table method, with 32 cases in each group.Patients in the control group were treated with metformin alone, while patients in the observation group were additionally treated with saxagliptin based on the control group. The fasting plasma glucose (FPG),postprandial 2h plasma glucose (2h PG),glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c),fasting insulin (FINs),islet beta cell function index (HOMA-β) and insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR) were compared between the two groups. Results FPG,2h PG,HbA1c,FINs,HOMA-β and HOMA-IR are significantly improved after treatment, and the improvement in observation group is more significant than those in control group (P<0.05).There is no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P>0.05).Conclusion The effect of saxagliptin is better than metformin alone in improving glucose and lipid metabolism and islet beta cell function in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus poorly controlled by metformin.
