Retrospective Study of viral Etiology of Acute Lower Respiratoyr Tract Infections in Hospitalized Children in Suzhou Area

Abstract:Objective To determine the load and importance of respiratory viruses in hospitalized children with acute lower respiratory tract infections(ALRIs) in Suzhou Area.Methods A retrospective study of 433 children with ALRI in the Department of Pediatrics , Suzhou hospital Affiliated to Nanjing Medical University from January , 2013 to December , 2014 was done.Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV),adenovirus(ADV),type 1 to 3 parainfluenza viruses(PIV),and type A and B influenza virus(flu)were detected by direct immuno-fluorescence.Results Of the 433 children with ALRI, viruses were detected in 113 specimens.RSV was common in children under 1 year old.And autumn was the peak of morbidity.Conclusion Respiratory viruses are the important cause of ALRIs in children in Suzhou Are-a, which accounts for 30.7%.The RSV is the most common pathogen causing ALRIs.Most of the children are younger than 1 year old, and are more likely to present with bronchiolitis than pneumonia.
