Value of Multi-slice Spiral CT in the Diagnosis of Small Intestine Stromal Tumors

Abstract：Objective To investigate the CT characteristics and the diagnostic value of MSCT in small intestine stromal tumor ( SIST) .Methods The MSCT materials of 13 patients with surgically and pathologically proved SIST were collected and retrospectively ana -lyzed.Results Among these SIST, 10 of them were malignant , 1 was potential malignant , and 2 were benigh.The former was usually 3~37 cm in diameter as well ,with average 23 cm.The 2 benign cases showed clear margins with slight enhancement and <5 cm in diameter . The 11 malignant cases showed ill -defined margin,mild to moderate enhancement and marked enhancement and >5cm in diameter.The di-lated vessels of tumors were found in 5 cases.The tumors were round or oval in 7 cases, with leaf shape in 6 cases.Necrotic and cystic areas were found in the malignant lesions .Remarkable enhancement was found in the parenchyma of the tumor , while no enhancement was found in the necrosis and cystic areas of the tumors .Eccentric necrotic areas close to the edge of masses in 3 cases and gas was found in 1 case. Ascite was found in 2 cases.Conclusion Multi-slice spiral CT has an important value in SIST ocalization and qualitative diagnosis ,which is helpful in guiding clinical treatment and evaluation of prognosis .
