Abstract:Objective To explore a prediction model for determining the optimal insertion length of peripherally inserted central venous catheters(PICC)in the upper limbs among preschool-age children with cancer. Methods Clinical data were collected from children underwent upper limb PICC placement in a hospital from January 2021 to January 2024.Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify key factors influencing optimal catheter length.A linear regression model was then constructed to predict the ideal insertion length. Results A total of 311 preschool-age children with tumours were included.Height, weight, arm circumference and catheter placement site were identified as significant factors influencing the PICC length.Based on these influencing factors, the prediction model was established as Y=5.937+0.108×height+0.366×arm circumference+0.621×placement site(R2=0.489,F=58.372,P<0.001).Conclusion The prediction model constructed based on intracavitary electrocardiographic localization in preschool-age children with tumors demonstrates good performance for predicting the optimal insertion length. Its application may help shorten procedural time, reduce catheter-related complications, and lower overall medical costs and risks.
