Abstract:Objective To analyze the interaction between family consistency and cancer avoidance communication in elderly lung cancer postoperative patients and their spouse caregivers based on the subject object dependence model. Methods In the department of thoracic surgery at provincial hospital of Shandong First medical university,325 pairs of elderly lung cancer postoperative patients and their spouses'caregivers were chosen between May 2024 and May 2025 using a sampling convenience technique. The study employed a Family Avoidance Cancer Communication Scale,a simplified version of the Family Consistency Scale, and a General Information Survey Questionnaire to examine the relationship between variables, and a subject-object interdependence model was created using AMOS software. Results Elderly lung cancer postoperative patients and their spouse caregivers scored(56.21±5.64)and(45.68±4.52)points on the family consistency scale, respectively. The Family Avoidance Cancer Communication Scale scores were(37.90±3.05)and(46.62±1.91),respectively.The findings showed that the Family Consistency Scale scores of senior patients with postoperative lung cancer and their spouse caregivers could be used to predict their own and their partner's family avoidance cancer communication scores in a negative way.Subject-object interdependence was a paired pattern, and both subject and object effects were significant(P<0.05).Conclusion The perceived avoidance of cancer communication among elderly lung cancer postoperative patients and their spouse caregivers was negatively influenced by their own and their partner's sense of family solidarity. To lessen the notion of family avoidance of cancer communication, clinical practice should emphasize the family and foster a sense of family unity among older lung cancer patients and the caregivers of their spouses from a binary perspective.
