Study on the Acceptance and Influencing Factors of Advance Care Planning among Elderly Cancer Patients

Abstract:Objective To explore the current status acceptance level of advance care planning among elderly cancer patients and identify its influencing factors.Methods A questionnaire study was conducted among a total of 294 elderly cancer inpatients from a tertiary grade A hospital in Beijing.Data were collected using General Information Questionnaire,Patient's Advance Care Planning Acceptance Questionnaire,Self-Esteem Scale and Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire.Results The score of acceptance of advance care planning among elderly cancer patients was(67.70±8.18).Age,educational level,disease duration,rescue experience,self-esteem level and coping style were independent influencing factors of the acceptance of advance care planning(P<0.05).Conclusion The acceptance of advance care planning among elderly cancer patients is at an upper-middle level and affected by multiple factors.It is suggested that strategies for promoting advance care planning should be formulated in combination with the psychological characteristics of elderly cancer patients,so as to provide references for optimizing palliative care services and alleviating the medical pressure caused by aging.
