Moral injury status and influencing factors of emergency department nurses

Abstract:Objective Investigate the current status of the moral injury of the emergency department nurses and analyze its influencing factors,to formulate targeted measures for managers and provide a basis for reducing their level of moral harm.Methods From January to March 2024,the researchers conducted a survey among a total of 308 emergency department nurses from five tertiary Grade A general hospi-tals in Changsha,utilizing the General Demographic Information Questionnaire,Moral Injury Symptoms Scale:Health Professionals Version,Moral Distress Scale Revise,Rushton Moral Resilience Scale and Healthy Work Environment Scale.Results The score of the moral injury a-mong emergency department nurses was(57.89±10.44).Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that age,years of experience in the emer-gency department,marital status,whether they had experienced patient safety incidents,whether they had reported major public health inci-dents,moral distress,moral resilience,and a healthy work environment were significant influencing factors of moral injury among these nurses(P<0.05).Conclusion The moral injury among emergency department nurses is at a moderate level,yet it poses significant risks and has multiple contributing factors.Healthcare administrators should prioritize this issue and develop targeted intervention strategies based on these influencing factors,with the ultimate goals of reducing the incidence of moral injury and promoting the well-being of emergency nurses and the stability of healthcare teams.
