A study on the level of nurses'nutritional cognition regarding cancer patients in gynecological oncology departments

Abstract：Objective To explore the current status and influencing factors of nurses'nutritional cognition regarding cancer patients in gynecological departments and analyze the influencing factors.Methods A total of 435 nurses from gynecological department in Beijing were investigated using a self-designed questionnaire focusing on nutritional cognition.Results Nurses exhibited relatively high awareness rates for the following:indications for nutritional therapy in patients undergoing chemotherapy(79.77%),perioperative nutritional support(76.55%),and staged principles of nutritional therapy(54.48%).The awareness rates of the optimal time to start nutritional screening for gynecological malignant tumor patients,nutritional support methods for gastrointestinal mucosal injury patients,and guidance on healthy lifes-tyle for cancer survivors were relatively low,with the rates being 12.18%,9.43%,and 5.52%respectively.The score of nutritional cognition was low(25.83±11.44).Hospital grade,assessment of the patients'oral feeding ability within 24 hours of admission,and provision of physical activity guidance for patients were the influencing factors of nurses'nutritional cognition.Conclusion Nurses'nutritional cognition in gyneco-logical departments requires improvement.Managers should enhance nursing staff's learning of nutrition-related guidelines and clinical prac-tice through targeted interventions based on these influencing factors.
