Latent profiles analysis and influencing factors of sense of meaning in life among elderly patients with chronic pain

Abstract:Objective To understand the potential categories of meaning in life among elderly patients with chronic pain and to explore its related characteristics.Methods From January 2023 to January 2024,a total of 243 elderly patients with chronic pain admitted to the de-partment of pain treatment of a hospital in Nanjing were selected as the research subjects by convenience sampling method.The General Infor-mation Questionnaire,Meaning in Life Questionnaire,Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia,Fall Risk Perception Questionnaire for Patients,Self-Rating Anxiety Scale,Self-Rating Depression Scale,Perceived Social Support Scale,Positive Psycap Questionnaire,and Pain Catastrophizing Scale were used to investigate the selected patients.To conduct a latent profile analysis of the data and analyze its influencing factors.Results The meaning in life among elderly patients with chronic pain could be divided into four latent profiles:low existent meaning in life(25.51%),low meaning in life(45.68%),moderate meaning in life(17.70%),and high meaning in life(11.11%).The chronic pain dura-tion,long-term use of analgesics,pain intensity,presence of kinesiophobia,perception of fall risk,levels of anxiety and depression,perceived of social support,positive psychological capital,and pain catastrophizing were the influencing factors of different underlying profiles(P<0.05).Conclusion The meaning in life among elderly patients with chronic pain has obvious classification characteristics.Medical staff can carry out targeted interventions for elderly patients with chronic pain according to the influencing factors of different latent profiles to improve their sense of meaning in life.
