The chain-mediated effects of professional identity and coping style on the relationship between personal mastery and psycho-logical empowerment of clinical nurses

Abstract:Objective To explore the chain-mediated effects of professional identity and coping style on the relationship clinical nur-ses' personal mastery and psychological empowerment.Methods A total of 393 clinical nurses working in three tertiary grade A general hos-pitals in Dalian were selected as subjects by convenience sampling method from April to June 2023.The general information questionnaire,Per-sonal Mastery Scale,Professional Identity Scale,Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire and Psychological Empowerment Scale were used for in-vestigation.Results The total scores of personal mastery,professional identity,positive coping and psychological empowerment were(24.95±4.79),(104.87±19.25),(24.74±6.37)and(44.82±7.20),and were positively correlated in pairs(P<0.05).The mediation effect analysis showed that the direct effect of personal control on psychological empowerment was significant,with an effect value of 0.295,accounting for 50.95%of the total effect.The total indirect effect value was 0.284,with the mediation effect of professional identity and positive coping style accounting for 38.51%and 5.01%,respectively,and the chain mediation effect accounted for 5.53%of the total effect.Conclusion The personal mas-tery of clinical nurses can directly affect psychological empowerment,and also indirectly affect psychological empowerment through the chain mediating effects of professional identity and positive coping.While helping clinical nurses to improve their sense of personal mastery,nursing managers should pay attention to improving their professional identity level,cultivate their positive thinking mode and problem-solving ability,so as to improve the level of psychological empowerment of nurses.
