Mediating effect of psychological control on fear of disease progression and psychosocial adaptation in hemodialysis patients

Abstract:Objective To explore the mediating effect of psychological control between fear of disease progression and psychosocial adap-tation in hemodialysis patients.Methods Using the method of convenient sampling,a total of 388 hemodialysis patients from the blood purifica-tion center of 3 tertiary Class A hospitals in Xi'an from February to April 2023 as the study objects were investigated with the general information questionnaire,Fear of Progression Questionnaire-Short Form,Personal Mastery Scale and Self-Report Psychosocial Adjustment to Illness Scale.Results Patients in hemodialysis had score of fear disease progression(28.97±7.97),score of psychological control(20.52±5.65)and score of psychosocial adaptation(54.34±18.15).Fear of disease progression was positively correlated with psychosocial adaptation(r=0.249,P<0.01),psychological control was negatively correlated with fear of disease progression(r=-0.187,P<0.001)and psychosocial adaptation(r=-0.569,P<0.01),psychological control played a mediating effect between fear of disease progression and psychosocial adaptation in hemodi-alysis patients.The mediating effect value was 0.101,the mediating effect accounted for 40.56%of the total effect.Conclusion The psychosocial adaptation of hemodialysis patients is in the lower middle level.Psychological control plays a mediating effect between fear of disease progression and psychosocial adaptation in hemodialysis patients.Medical staff can take effective psychological intervention measures to reduce the level of fear of disease progression of hemodialysis patients,enhance their sense of psychological control,and finally improve their psychosocial adaptation.
