The mediating effect of psychological capital on the relationship between perceived social support and academic procrastination among higher vocational nursing students

Abstract:Objective To explore the current situation of perceived social support,psychological capital,and academic procrastination among higher vocational nursing students,and analyze the mediating effect of psychological capital between the two.Methods A total of 543 higher vocational nursing students were investigated by general information questionnaire,Perceived Social Support Scale,Positive Psycho-logical Capital Questionnaire,and Academic Procrastination Inventory for College Students.Results The scores of perceived social support,psycho-logical capital,and academic procrastination among higher vocational nursing students were(56.96±13.69),(108.05±19.46),and(55.33±12.23),respectively.Higher vocational nursing students'perceived social support was positively correlated with psychological capital(r=0.677,P<0.01),and the perceived social support and psychological capital were negatively correlated with academic procrastination(r1=-0.435,r2=-0.493,P<0.01),respectively.Psychological capital played a partial mediating effect between perceived social support and academic pro-crastination,accounting for 57.78%of the total effect.Conclusion Perceived social support,psychological capital,and academic procrastina-tion among higher vocational nursing students are all at a moderate level.Perceived social support can alleviate academic procrastination a-mong higher vocational nursing students,and psychological capital as a mediating variable can enhance the alleviating effect of perceived so-cial support on academic procrastination.The study suggests that nursing educators should start from multiple aspects to improve the time man-agement ability of higher vocational nursing students and alleviate academic procrastination problems.
