Abstract:Objective To investigate the current status of aging expectations in elderly diabetic patients and to analyze the effects of disease perception, positive attention awareness, and family caringness on aging expectations. Methods A general information questionnaire,Expectations Regarding Aging-21,Biref Illness Perception Questionnaire,Mindful Attention Awareness Scale, and Family APGAR Index were used to investigate a total of 316 elderly patients with diabetes mellitus. Results Elderly patients with diabetes had aging expectation score(34.90±6.39),disease perception score(37.95±6.93),positive attention awareness score(53.91±10.32),and family caringness score(5.70±1.26).Aging expectation was negatively associated with disease perception(P<0.0 1),and had positive connection with mindful atten-tion awareness and family caring degree(P<0.01).Multiple linear regression analysis showed that gender, family per capita monthly income,diabetes-related complications, disease perception, positive attention awareness, and family caringness accounted for 55.6%of the variance in aging expectations. Conclusion The aging expectation level of elderly patients with diabetes is low.Healthcare professionals should emphasize and assess the level of patients'aging expectations, and explore interventions to improve aging expectations,so as to improve the level of aging expectations in elderly patients with diabetes.
