The effect of oral cryotherapy on oral mucositis in children with acute leukemia after chemotherapy

Abstract：Objective To explore the intervention effect of oral cryotherapy to prevent oral mucositis in acute leukemia children.Methods A total of 104 children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia were randomly divided into control group and intervention group.The control group received routine oral care during chemotherapy and the intervention group received oral cryotherapy on the basis.Then to evalu-ate the incidence,grading,and healing time of oral mucositis in children during chemotherapy and the discomfort symptoms,infection occur-rence,and length of hospital stay of the children were observed and recorded.Results The incidence,grade,and healing time of oral mucosi-tis in the intervention group were significantly reduced(P＜0.05),the incidence of discomfort symptoms and infection in the intervention group were lower than those in the control group and the length of hospitalization was shortened(P＜0.05).Conclusion The oral cryotherapy has a good preventive effect on the occurrence of oral mucositis in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia after chemotherapy.It can re-duce discomfort,reduce the risk of infection and shorten the length of hospital stay.
