The mediating effect of meaning in life between psychological resilience and volunteer motivation of hospice care volunteers

Abstract:Objective To explore the current situation of psychological resilience,meaning in life and volunteer motivation of hospice care volunteers,and to analyze the mediating effect of meaning in life between psychological resilience and volunteer motivation.Methods A total of 147 hospice care volunteers were investigated by General Information Questionnaire,Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale,Chinese Version of Meaning in Life Scale and Inventory of Motivation Scale of Hospice Care Volunteers.Results The psychological resilience score of hospice care volunteers was(97.20±12.32)points,the meaning of life score was(44.60±9.33)points,and the motivation score of volunteers was(94.02±15.70)points.There was a pairwise positive correlation among the psychological resilience,meaning in life and the motivation of the volunteers(P<0.01).The sense of meaning in life playsed a mediating role between the psychological resilience of hospice care volunteers and the motivation of volunteers.The effect value was 0.063,accounting for 37.72%of the total effect.Conclusion The psychological resili-ence of hospice care volunteers is at a high level,and the sense of meaning in life and volunteer motivation are at the upper middle level.The sense of meaning in life plays a partial mediating effect between psychological resilience and volunteer motivation.When engaged in volunteer service,hospice care volunteers should help them constantly sublimate their sense of meaning in life,enhance their psychological resilience,and strengthen their belief in volunteer service,so as to provide high-quality hospice care volunteer service for patients at the end of life.
