The mediating roles of basic psychological needs satisfaction between psychological resilience and fear of childbirth among pregnant women

Abstract:Objective To explore the mediating roles of basic psychological needs satisfaction between psychological resilience and fear of childbirth among pregnant women.Methods A general information questionnaire,Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale,Basic Psycho⁃logical Needs Scales,and Childbirth Attitudes Questionnaires scale were used to investigate 700 pregnant women in three tertiary hospitals in Yangzhou.Results The scores of pregnant women's psychological resilience,basic psychological needs and fear of childbirth were(74.36±18.69),(104.42±17.25)and(33.66±9.70),respectively.The psychological resilience and basic psychological needs satisfaction were negatively correla⁃ted with fear of childbirth(r1=-0.525,r2=-0.546,P<0.01),and psychological resilience was positively correlated with basic psychological needs satisfaction(r=0.536,P<0.01).The need for autonomy,the need for competence and the need for belonging all played a partial mediating role between the psychological resilience and fear of childbirth,accounting for 17.11%,15.59%,and 10.27%of the total effect,respectively.Conclusion Pregnant women have mild fear of childbirth,and the satisfaction of basic psychological needs plays a mediating role between psy⁃chological resilience and fear of childbirth.Medical staff can take targeted interventions to improve the psychological resilience and basic psycho⁃logical needs satisfaction of pregnant women,thus reducing the fear of childbirth and promoting the mental health of pregnant women.
