The research on mediating effects of perceived stress between nurses'practice environment and work engagement in plateau areas

Abstract:Objective To investigate the situation of nurses'practice environment,perceived stress and work engagement in the plateau area,and explore the mediating effects of perceived stress in nurses'practice environment and work engagement in the district.Methods A total of 365 clinical nurses from Xining,Haibei and Guoluo of Qinghai Province was investigated by general information questionnaire,Nurses'Practice Environment Scale,Chinese Perceived Stress Scale and Utrecht Work Engagement Scale.Results The average score of nurses'practice environment,perceived stress and work engagement were(68.03±22.99),(1.86±0.41),and(3.71±1.25),respectively.Work envi-ronment was positive related to work engagement(r=0.499,P<0.01),and negative related to perceived stress(r=-0.343,P<0.01).There was a negative relation between perceived stress and work engagement(r=-0.450,P<0.01).Perceived stress played a partial mediating effect be-tween practice environment and work engagement.Conclusion Practice environment need to be improved,perceived stress is common and work engagement is at a moderate level for nurses in the plateau areas of Qinghai Province.Perceived stress plays a mediating role in the rela-tionship between practice environment and work engagement,and building a good practice environment is helpful to alleviate the work pressure of nurses in plateau areas that can also improve the level of work engagement.
